Job Summary

Perform duties required to fabricate and assemble structural metal products, such as frameworks or subassemblies for machinery, per job order or blueprints.

  • • Read and interpret routings and blueprints, including weld symbols.
  • • Develop, layout, and plan sequence of operations for fabricating and assembling structural metal products, using mathematical skills and knowledge of metal.
  • • Verify conformance of work to specifications using square, ruler, and/or tape measure.
  • • Locate and mark bending and cutting lines onto workpiece, allowing for stock thickness and machine and welding shrinkage.
  • • Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, welders, and drill presses.
  • • Hammer and grind work to cut, bend, and straighten metal.
  • • Position, align, fit, and weld together parts using jigs, welding torch, and hand tools.
  • • Preheat workpiece to render it malleable, using a hand torch.
  • • Help design and construct templates, fixtures, and guardings.

  • • High school diploma, or equivalent, required.
  • • Diploma in welding or 2 years’ job experience required.

  • • Industrial print reading experience required.
  • • Experience operating fabrication department equipment required.
  • • Must pass welding certification 2G within 1 year of start date.
  • • MIG & TIG welding experience preferred.
